HOW TO CARRY OUT EFFECTIVE MAINTENANCE AND MAINTENANCE OF FILLER SEALS



Among many mechanical sealing methods, filler sealing has been widely used in many industrial fields due to its simple structure and low cost. However, to ensure that the filler seal works effectively for a long time, scientific and reasonable maintenance is required.


1. Working principle of packing seal


The packing seal mainly relies on the close contact between the filler and the shaft or sleeve to achieve sealing. When the shaft rotates, the filler is pressed between the shaft and the packing box to form a sealing ring to prevent the leakage of the medium. Fillers are usually made of materials with certain elasticity and wear resistance, such as graphite, asbestos, PTFE, etc.


2. Maintenance and maintenance points of packing seals


1). Correct selection of filler


Different working media and working conditions require different fillers to be selected. For example, for high-temperature and high-pressure working conditions, high-temperature and high-pressure fillers should be selected; for corrosive media, corrosion-resistant fillers should be selected. When choosing the filler, the sealing, wear resistance, self-lubrication and other properties of the filler should also be considered.


2). The installation of fillers should be standardized.


When installing the packing, make sure that the packing box is clean and free of debris. Put the filler into the packing box one by one, and the incision of each filler should be staggered at a certain angle to ensure the sealing effect. The pressure of the filler should be moderate. If it is too loose, it will lead to leakage. If it is too tight, it will increase the wear and power consumption of the shaft. Generally speaking, it is appropriate to press the packing cap into the packing box with a depth of 1/3 to 1/2.


3). Regular inspection and adjustment


During the operation of the equipment, the leakage of the packing seal should be checked regularly. If a leak is found, the cause should be analyzed in time and corresponding measures should be taken. If it is a leak caused by filler wear, the filler should be replaced in time; if it is a leak caused by loose packing cover, the cover bolts should be tightened appropriately. At the same time, the wear of the shaft should also be checked. If there is any wear, the shaft should be repaired or replaced in time.


4). Keep good lubrication.


In order to reduce the friction and wear between the filler and the shaft, good lubrication should be maintained at the packing seal. Suitable lubricants can be selected according to the nature of the working medium, such as lubricants, greases, etc. When adding lubricant, pay attention to the appropriate amount. Too much lubricant will cause leakage, and too little will not lubricate.


5). Control working parameters


In equipment using packing seals, working parameters such as temperature, pressure, rotational speed, etc. should be strictly controlled. Excessive temperature, pressure and rotation speed will accelerate the wear and aging of the filler and reduce the sealing effect. Therefore, during the operation of the equipment, we should pay close attention to the changes in working parameters. Once an abnormality is found, it should be shut down and checked in time.


6). Do a good job in cleaning and corrosion of equipment


Keep the equipment clean and avoid debris entering the packing box, which will affect the sealing effect. For equipment working in a corrosive environment, effective anti-corrosion measures should be taken, such as painting anti-corrosion paint and using corrosion-resistant materials. At the same time, the equipment should be cleaned and maintained regularly to extend the service life of the equipment.

Although the packing seal is simple in structure, to ensure its long-term effective function, we need to carry out careful maintenance and maintenance in daily use. Correct selection of fillers, standardized installation, regular inspection and adjustment, maintenance of good lubrication, control of working parameters, and cleaning and anti-corrosion of equipment are the keys to ensuring the sealing performance of fillers. Only in this way can we give full play to the advantages of packing seal, improve the operation efficiency and reliability of the equipment, and provide a strong guarantee for the smooth progress of industrial production.
